THREE BIG THINGS THIS WEEK
We received slots for two 2026 Google Summer of Code Contributors. One contributor will be working on adding sex and the other will be working on adding Empirical Dynamic Modeling (EDM) with the help of Molly Stevens and Steve Munch. Their FIMS mentors, Adrianne, Andrea, Nathan, Molly, are working on a plan regarding how to welcome them to the FIMS community.
Bai is working on absorbing {ecosystemdata} into {ecosystemom}. There is also a Discussion about absorbing {FIMSdiags} into {FIMS}.
We received additional comments on the FIMS Manuscript before the CIE Review. Christine started addressing them last week with the hope that the manuscript can be submitted this week.

PHOTO OF THE WEEK
Close-kin mark recapture (CKMR) was recently added to the Beaufort Assessment Model (BAM) for the assessment of red snapper, where DNA is used to identify family relationships or next of kin. The photograph below is a DNA sample of red snapper by Liam Kehoe, you can read about Liam’s story and view the photo on the Florida Sea Grant website. Liam Kehoe is a 2024 NMFS-Sea Grant fellow. Please let me know if you have ideas regarding CKMR and FIMS.
